How about renting the movie
The Lives of Others? It's in German, but before you know it you'll find yourself forgetting that you're even reading subtitles -- yes, if you're a foreign film fan, it's that good. It's the best movie I've seen in, literally, years.
Ulrich Mühe stars in the film, ironically playing a German Stasi agent who spies on a couple and then grows to like them. The irony is that, in his own life, Mühe was being spied on as well, and the events in the film mirror eerily what happened to him during Communist rule in East Germany.
